Crown Molding for the Main Line and Delaware County
Crown molding creates a finished transition between the walls and ceiling. The appropriate profile depends on ceiling height, room dimensions, existing casing and baseboards, and the amount of detail already present in the space.
LM Legacy Remodeling installs single-piece, two-piece, and built-up crown molding throughout Delaware County, the Main Line, Philadelphia, and nearby Pennsylvania communities. We bring profile samples to the estimate so the size and projection can be compared in the room before material is ordered.
Selecting a Crown Profile
A profile that is appropriately sized in a room with a 10-foot ceiling may feel oversized in a smaller room with an 8-foot ceiling. Door and window casing, ceiling details, cabinet heights, and adjacent rooms also affect the selection.
Built-up crown uses multiple molding components to create a larger assembly. The component profiles and overall height are established before installation.
Existing Walls, Ceilings, and Corners
Inside and outside corners are fitted to the actual room. Where walls or ceilings are not perfectly straight, the molding is measured and adjusted to the existing conditions. Coping, mitering, backing, or other fitting methods may be used according to the profile and material.
What Is Crown Molding?
Crown molding adds a finished transition between the walls and ceiling. Profile size is selected according to ceiling height, room dimensions, and the surrounding trim.

Types of Crown Molding We Install
- Single-Piece Crown Molding — A clean, classic profile. Works in most rooms and most budgets. Available in a wide range of sizes and styles.
- Two-Piece Crown Molding — A more substantial, custom look achieved by stacking two moulding profiles. Adds significant visual impact and is a hallmark of higher-end finish carpentry.
- Built-Up Crown Molding — Multiple pieces combined to create a fully custom cornice detail. Common in formal dining rooms and grand entryways.
- Coffered Ceiling Crown — Crown molding used within coffered ceiling panels to frame each recessed section.

How Much Does Crown Molding Cost to Install?
Crown molding pricing is driven by a few key factors:
- Profile type — Single-piece profiles are more straightforward. Two-piece and built-up crown involve more material and significantly more installation time.
- Linear footage — The total perimeter of rooms being done directly affects cost.
- Number of corners — Inside and outside corners require precise cuts and take additional time. More corners means more labor.
- Ceiling height — Taller ceilings require working at height and may require additional setup.
- Scope — A single room versus a full home installation changes the overall project price significantly.
During the estimate, we measure the room, review the existing trim and ceiling conditions, compare profile options, and provide a written price for the agreed work.
How Long Does Crown Molding Installation Take?
Project length depends on the number of rooms, profile type, corner count, ceiling height, preparation, and finish requirements. The expected schedule is included with the project scope.
What Makes a Quality Crown Molding Installation?
A crown molding installation depends on accurate layout, appropriate profile size, fitted corners, secure fastening, and proper preparation for paint.
- Tight corner joints — Every inside and outside corner must be precisely cut and fit. Gaps are not acceptable.
- Level and straight runs — Crown must follow a consistent line across the wall, even when walls aren't perfectly plumb.
- Clean returns — Where crown ends at a wall or doorway, the return must be properly finished.
- Proper caulk and prep — Nail holes and joints are filled, caulked, and prepared according to the agreed finish scope.

Our Crown Molding Installation Process
Every crown molding project follows the same approach, whether it’s a single dining room or a full first floor:
- Walkthrough & measurement — We measure each room with a laser measurer, check ceiling and wall conditions, and talk through where crown makes sense and where it doesn’t.
- Profile selection — We help you choose a profile that fits the ceiling height and the style of the home, from simple single-piece crown to built-up multi-piece designs.
- Installation — Inside corners are coped, not just mitered, so joints stay tight as the wood moves with the seasons. Outside corners are cut to the actual wall angle, not an assumed 90 degrees.
- Caulk, fill & finish prep — Nail holes are filled, seams and gaps are caulked, and everything is left paint-ready.
- Cleanup & walkthrough — We clean up the work area and walk the finished rooms with you before we call the job done.
